The dean of instruction serves as AV¶¶Òõ-Gallup's chief academic officer with overall responsibility for leadership and administration of the branch campus’ instructional faculty, programs and facilities.
Approximately 60 full-time and 60 part-time faculty are fully engaged in teaching, scholarly work and service at the branch. The dean works closely with faculty leaders to ensure excellence in the academic programs and support for faculty professional activities.
The dean is a member of the AV¶¶Òõ-Gallup Executive Team, supporting the overall governance of the campus under the chancellor's leadership.

John Zimmerman was hired as the dean of instruction for AV¶¶Òõ-Gallup on July 1, 2023.
Zimmerman previously served as the chair of the AV¶¶Òõ-Gallup Fine Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Division from 2021 to 2023. He has worked at AV¶¶Òõ-Gallup since 2006 — first as an assistant professor of fine art, then as an associate professor of fine art, and as a professor of fine art. He was also the director of AV¶¶Òõ-Gallup's Ingham Chapman Gallery from 2006 to 2021.
Zimmerman holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in ceramics from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, and a Master of Fine Arts with an emphasis in ceramics from San Jose State University in San Jose, California. He has an extensive career as an internationally recognized ceramic sculptor participating in numerous exhibitions across the U.S. and in China and with work in multiple collections — both public and private.
